I can't make it next weekend either. Thems the breaks. I'm happy to think of my race fee as a donation.

I really laud the CSRA's willingness to postpone/cancel or shorten the race due to rain and the impact on the trails. I wish more promoters did that. The rain policy was clear and laid out in advance, so I don't see where anyone really has the right to complain. B!tch maybe, but not complain or be a pain in the butt about it.

Thanks for the positive responses on the cancellation. I am sitting at the main lodge at HKSP and really wish we could have held it this weekend. I am also watching the Weather Channel and it just doesn't look good for the entire SE.
That said, we have a rain policy that makes the best of the situation. I feel for the people that can't make it, but look forward to seeing those that can make it next weekend. I just talked to HKSP Assistant Manager Lacy, and he is sincerely thankful that we are going to a rain date.

I agree with Wooglin. As I tend to do most of the time.
Thanks for saying this.
It sucks. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet. People coming in for Masters that I haven't seen in years. They don't ride and are staying at the house.
At the end of the day, I don't mind making a donation to SORBA-CSRA. Have before and will again, I am sure.

Thanks for the positive responses on the cancellation. I am sitting at the main lodge at HKSP and really wish we could have held it this weekend. I am also watching the Weather Channel and it just doesn't look good for the entire SE. Absolutely the right call. This is what the state climatologist has to say: It appears that the SC State Climatologist (a.k.a. “Queen of Drought”) was doing unauthorized rain dances in Cancun last week. A vigorous cold front is pounding its way across the southeast this morning. This front has produced severe thunderstorms and tornadoes including one tornado that made a direct hit in Little Rock. This front begins to throw heavy rain, thunderstorms across the Upstate starting late this afternoon. Any afternoon sunshine will help destabilize the atmosphere which will produce stronger thunderstorms, possibly a few isolated severe cells tonight. Most of the action will be on Saturday as the front plods across the State. Heavy rain of 1-2 inches is likely across the entire State. Thunderstorms, some severe, will produce damaging straight line 40-50 mph winds with gust to 60. Can not rule out the remote possibility of an isolated tornado especially over the Low Country late Saturday afternoon. No real support for strong tornadoes or widespread outbreaks. Sunny on Sunday with a dry, sunny start for next week.

Does this mean that some spots may have opened up to allow for "Day Of" registration?
I should have asked you today Paul, sorry.

Does this mean that some spots may have opened up to allow for "Day Of" registration There were several slots left open for walk-ups this weekend, so there will be that many more next weekend!

The main SORBA/CSRA page stated, until yesterday, that we had 163 registered riders. The ride was limited to 175. The decision for years has been to shut down registration a few days early. We have to shut it down, due to insurance reasons, before we get to our limit because we may get a few in via snail-mail, and that usually ends up with a few openings for walk-ups. We can't go over the 175. Shutting it down a few days early also gives us volunteers, who also have full-time jobs, a chance to get our ducks in a row! The paragraph also stated to email bakersdozen2008@gmail.com to see if there were/are any openings. Michael

Uhh, you're selling spots twice? If so, that's pretty bogus. I support the rain postponement, but definitely not the taking advantage of those of us who can't make the alternate date.

Unfortunately it looks like it is going to be pretty messy at registration - many of those who cannot attend the coming weekend are selling their slots to others who can. There were also some open slots as well (remember the event was capped for 175 riders).
There are a lot of discussions going on right now - people are scrambling on both sides to get things pulled back together. Our goal was not to make money at the expense of the riders but the options will have to be thoroughly discussed before a decision is made on how to handle everything. Fortunately we've never had the problem before.
Turned out to be a very good call, it would have been a non-event had we moved forward to last Saturday. Right now this week looks like things will dry out but that of course is subject to change.

I support the rain postponement, but definitely not the taking advantage of those of us who can't make the alternate date. Scenario: For the original date we had 12 open slots remaining at the start. We have to unfortunately use the rain date. Due to some people not being able to make the rain date, now on the morning of the alternate date we have 22 slots before the race starts. We have 14 people that want to ride. Do we turn away the other two? Or do we charge them the standard fee and let them ride?

The post I quoted prior to my statement above was certainly misleading, and has been cleared up. Thanks. I do understand that this whole thing has been a PITA for you folks doing the organizing, and I came out early and supported your decision because it was based on a clear policy. Then, when I asked for clarification on another decision I get seenvic accusing me of spreading rumors and azdrawdy rolling his/her eyes. Nice. I'll chalk it up to the fact that you're taking some heat for postponing though. Y'all have fun next weekend and hopefully I'll see you on the trails sooner rather than later.
