I had a great time Saturday. Awesome to see some new faces and to have such a great turnout on a beautiful day. Looking forward to next month's ride!

Very nice photos. My wife loves the pink spokes and wants them on her road bike (she already has a pink helmet). I assume that's a custom wheelset. Do you know the manufacturer of the spokes? Did you have the wheels built locally? Thanks

Ah come on nitro, you know better than that! First give away is the spokes - I9's are aluminum, the pink ones are steel. The hub is different too. I don't know what they are...but they're not I9's! (unless they now offer some steel spoked wheels I don't know about) These are I9's:

Spinergy wheels. The gal w/ the pink BMX style helmet has them. In another picture, you can see the wheel says Spinergy.
But I gotta say....not sure how Dustin can tell the material the spoke is made of from looking at the picture.

If I remember correctly, the lady's husband said there's a vendor out there that sells a ton of stuff in all sorts of custom colors. And they check eBay a lot.

Aluminum spokes have to be larger in diameter than steel spokes to get the same strength. And the way the pink spokes cross, touch, and bend against each other right at the hub - I don't think that would work well with aluminum, it would be prone to crack. www.industrynine.net/F.A.Q. I think we got ourselves a new game here: name that component ;D

Also, aluminum would most likely be an anodized finish. If I'm right about which Spinergy wheels those are, the spokes are neither aluminum or steel. PBO Fiber Spoke Technology - Available only from SpinergySpinergyengineers have invented a revolutionary technology for stronger, lighter and faster wheels. Introducing PBO Fiber Spoke Technology. Every PBO spoke contains over 30,000 strands of polyphenylene bensobisoxazole fiber, delivering 3-times the strength of stainless steel at just half the weight. www.spinergy.com/catalog/tech_special_feature_v2.php

Very cool. I don't really know anything about spinergy. Good eye on Naming That Component BV. DG: Next time you talk to oddcouple, ask about Spinnergy wheels. Dude's been using them for years, and swears by them. He will speak of the pros and cons all day long. 'Course, now that he is on those big wheels (Giant Anthem), his 26" Spinnergy's may be gathering dust, along with the Halestorm. MD
