Great Wall was in perfect shape today for a quick spin, the temperatures were stellar and the leaf color was much more vibrant than I have seen in the last few years. Huge turkey gobbler crossed the trail just before the rock bridge - largest one I have seen in the wild, no hens in sight.

The trails out at FATS are perfect for night riding and the trail conditions are really good right now - add great weather into the mix (it was mid to high 60's last night during our ride and tonight looks the same) and it is the perfect time to night ride. Last night I was ahead and could not hear Daniel behind me - a strange sound off to my left was a bit startling (everyone who rides in the woods probably eventually learns to recognize the bounding of the deer, the sounds of squirrels and other forest animals).....I had not heard the sound before........so I did the only thing I could do which was quickly speed up. When Daniel caught me he asked if I had seen the armadillo...felt foolish but now can add that to recognizable sounds.

Here's one for you....out riding FATS yesterday, Skinny CCW to Brown Wave CCW, as I was in the final half mile of Brown Wave I came around a sharp curve with speed in just enough time to see a Bobcat leap up the trunk of a tree, as we both startled one another I nearly went off the trail down into a ravine and he /she hustled very quickly (quite amazing how fast actually) up the tree and settled on one of the high branches. I have seen a Bobcat out at Keg before, but this was a first at FATS.

You're gonna scare everyone off. Now they'll worry about hunters and predatory cats! ;D

With top weight at about 35 pounds probably not be an issue at all for humans (unless cornered or if the cat was diseased) but might be a good reason to keep your trail dogs in close proximity.

saw some bear scat on GW about 2 years back. More worried about rattlesnakes though.

A bobcat can be more dangerous than you can imagine.. They are so fast, that they are on you before you know it..

And scariest of all are those dreadful ticks - I've never personally known anyone nailed by a rattlesnake, mauled by a bear or bobcat, etc - but I have known two people who contracted Lyme disease I picked up a tick on a Christmas Eve ride a few years back - so doesn't hurt to still be aware.

Rode Big rock, tower and duck pond this morning, was worried that the trail might have some downed trees after yesterdays weather, Happy to report aside from being covered with a lot of leaves and pine straw the trails are in great shape, not even wet.

Tuesday (11/22) there was a tree leaning over GW with a ride around forming around it. Was going cw and I believe it was the second downhill section in that direction. The trail basically went from one side of tree in question to the uphill side of the tree in question.
There was one other tree with ride around forming (just before the stream crossing before the last, long climb out) but with a little muscle I managed to clear it.

I was planning on coming up for the meeting tonight, but we got a good bit of rain in Statesboro yesterday. I assume fats is too wet to ride, but maybe one of you will tell me otherwise. Thanks

Thanks rode sknny and brown wave today. There was only one spot on brown wave where it was rutted out. The trails were dry.

Deep Step first descent going ccw tree down, There is a tight ride around on the up hill side with a root ball(?) in the center. Down hill side is doable but IMHO it would be safer to remove it.

Dang near killed myself there on a night ride. Was hauling down that hill and when it finally came into the light there was no way to stop with all that leaf cover. Glad it was up off the ground enough that I was able to slide to a stop under it. Not a fun way to start a ride.
