A friend who has ridden both sides of the Bartram since the storm reported 30+ trees down between Petersburg and West Dam and another 25+ down between Petersburg and Wildwood.
We will be out tomorrow afternoon with a GPS to see what it is going to take to get them cleared out before the Best Dam Ride.

Dale and Paul did most of the heavy lifting early today on the Bartram and took out about 28 trees between Petersburg and West Dam then came over to Bartram West and took another 16 between Petersburg and the gravel road at the 3 miles mark. Daniel, Chuck, Susan and I finished up with a scouting ride from Wildwood and ultimately took out another 12 trees. So at least as of tonight the primary 18 miles of Bartram is clear - 56 trees removed!
There were signs all over the place and put on people's cars about the shutdown and if things are not handled by midnight folks will have to vacate the corp land in the morning!
The trail is in great shape! A few seepage areas here and there but they will just have to be managed until the water levels drop a bit. Again looks as though riders are staying in the middle of the trail so all should be well once the spots dry up.

Thanks for all the work. Having ridden both sides of Bartram this weekend, it is so obvious that the work ya'll did was tremendously important, and obviously tiring. Thanks again, MD

New Bartram in good shape to Keg Creek except for a large tree down at bottom of field in Wildwood. That section will also need a hedge trimmer and loppers soon.

(6/11) rode Bartram from Washington Rd just past Pollards. Between WW and the first bridge one non-rider w/ many branches. Going thru WW about half way on the rack-n-ride similiar non rider. Keg was in awesome shape.

We rode Peterson to Wildwood today and ran across the tree Brian mentioned above - Between Daniel's folding saw and my hand loppers we managed to get it at least cleared so that people can either stay on the trail and ride the tree (should be a bit of a challenge) or stay on the trail and dismount and carry over. Not sure when it will be removed but in the meantime.............thanks to Lee who lent a hand getting things cleared!

Rode West Dam to Lake Springs loop to Petersburg and back Saturday. Carried bike over dead looking tree not far from Lake Springs Road headed toward Petersburg and another carry over about 1/4 of way in going ccw on lake springs loop. Blackberries in the field nearer to Petersburg are prime time!

The blueberries in May were excellent along the Bartram Trail but initial tasting of the blackberries tells me the lack of water is producing berries that aren't as tasty as they should be - and if we don't get some rain the muscadines that will be ripe in August will be small, few and not as tasty either.

cleared downed trees and large debris from Wash. Rd through Wildwood and to the 1st bridge on New Bartram. A couple of riders reported 2 more trees down between the bridge and mile marker 11.5 but I don't know where. Lots of trail debis from the storm Wed. night (and probably more from tonight).

rode the 'Burg to West Dam this morning. 7 trees down. 5 trees are close to the 1 to 1.5 mile mark. (just west of the sail club road) 2 of those are tree tops, the other 3 are large diameter ones. The other two are close to Lake Springs, one going toward West Dam just after you get back onto the singletrack about 200ft. The other going toward the 'burg just after you cross the dirt road that leads to the cabins/trailers. Both of these are large diameter also, 20"+
Paul was heading toward Wild Wood when I got back to the 'Burg trail head. I did not ride Lake Spring Loop.

Rode West Dam to Petersburg last night. Trees as down between mile 0.5 and 1.5 and another at 2.2. Some storm debris on the rest on the trail. Cleared what I could. Looks like some people are creating go arounds on a couple of the trees. Going to ride Wildwood section tonight.

Robert Burton and I cleared the downed trees on old Bartram and Lake Springs that are noted above. There were some big 'uns. New Bartram still has the 4 downed trees but will get them soon.
