I have not been skiing since moving to GA 5 years ago and my wife and I are toying with the idea of going sometime this winter. Where is the best skiing within 4-6 hour drive from the CSRA.

I've been to Sugar Mountain NC for the past two years and I'm getting ready to plan my third trip. It's about a 5 hour drive and seems to have the most to offer out of all the ski resorts within about a 6 hour drive from Augusta. Check out www.skisugar.com for all the info you need including current weather conditions, the forecast, and a webcam. Also check out the lodging/rental/lift ticket discount packages.

Brian, go to Winterplace WV; they actually have snow and you don't have to drive through icy roads to get there. It is straight up I-77 from Charlotte just off the expressway in Flat Top, WV.
Google says 5.5 hrs.
Lots of groups on the weekend; best to go Saturday afternoon, ski Sunday and Monday.

Winterplace is significantly larger and better than the others mentioned... and worth the farther drive
Snowshoe is also another nice resort within driving distance (Virgina)

Actually, Snowshoe is near Marlinton, WV and is a pretty good drive. Rt 219 can be treacherous in the Winter - but it's a really good ski area.
