I have several hundred pounds of broken up concrete that could be used forarmoring material. Let me know as soon as possible if you want it,if not it will be hauled off to the dump I think I have done the last armoring at FATS I will ever do. But that is just me. I love the idea of making the trail more solid in places it needs it. It is a good idea. But FATS is *gaper central, and the gapers ride around the armor. For some reason, these gapers will gladly ride a trail from 18" wide to 3-4 feet wide....to get around some armoring. Something someone with a clue carried in there to preserve the tread. Instead, the tread gets wider and deeper. And it will be muddy there next wet season. Gapers are great, aren't they? What is the sense of carrying heavy things into the woods if people are going to ride next to the heavy thing? If you ride around the armor, I am calling YOU a gaper. Yes you. * gaper. Someone with a bike an no clue how to ride it on a trail.

I do a little armoring out there but right now it's a little warm, I also round up the material for what I'm working on then I ask for help or just go and do it. So I'd say if you know a place that needs armoring save enough to to fix it. I understand what seenvic's is saying and it is frustrating, if you do decide to do something I'll help you out, there are a few tricks you have to use to force people to ride where they need to ride.
gapers ...i love it!

There's already a huge pile of busted up concrete at the top of Buzzard that has been there for about 4 years that needs to be used first. IMO the bricks are the best.

If you have to haul it someplace to dump it, would it make sense to haul and dump someplace close to a trail system? Problem would be where - having it in the ground blends somewhat into the terrain but a pile of it is an eyesore. Anyone have ideas about a location that wouldn't raise a fuss?
There's a bit of armoring that will be needed on new Bartram - in the biggest dip - gets ugly in winter / wet weather. COE showed me a pic that a hiker took and it was a mess. It was quite soft when I rode there last month after/during a protracted dry spell. We'll plan on using the same material that Benchmark Trails used in initial construction - need to keep it a high speed area.

Unless someone thinks I'm wrong, this material is not needed nor wanted. Concrete is hard to handle, hard to transport, hard to break up into usuable pieces, and fit together without maximum ground disturbance. Also, concrete has been the cause of numerous accidents due to it not fitting together and popping out of place as tires hit it. Once again there is a whole huge pile that has existed for over 4 years now with no use. I'm pretty sure those that have used the concrete as opposed to bricks will agree. As long as the bricks are available then they should be our material of choice. edit: Please help me Jimmy C. !!!!!

LOL Well ted i am in the brick corner, they give alot of bang for the buck especially when a little gravel is used as a kind of a "morter joint", and we have a large stack on one of the fire roads at FATS. the concrete is hard to handle and the only place that I (just because i can get my hands on the bricks) would use it would be to "corral or choke" a spot. i don't know where that pile is, i'm sure it is still there, i'll try to use a little of it on the next project just to get it out of the way. johnny looks like we have enough, thanks for wanting to pitch in.
