I can help out Saturday (09/11) morning.
I have only been Lick Fork once (two years ago) and don't remember much about the sections or parking. If you tell me where to park (or Google map) I'll be there at 9:00AM - possibly earlier if needed.

I was wondering if the whole trail was on course for the SMC, or only sections 2 & 3 (ride pavement to gravel, turn left onto section 2 and ride clockwise until end of section 3, turn left on gravel)? All of the trail is used for the SMC. They'll come down the main entrance road into Lick Fork, hit SAG 2 where the trail crosses the road the first time, turn onto the trail going CW, ride it till they hit SAG 2 again, then take the gravel out of Lick Fork. I too don't know what section is what...I know the gravel roads break it up, but don't know which is which.

If you tell me where to park (or Google map) I'll be there at 9:00AM - possibly earlier if needed. Let's shoot for 8:30am if everyone's OK with that. Turn off 230 (Martintown Rd.) and head toward Lick Fork Rec Area. After driving a couple of miles, do not turn right into the actual rec area, but instead keep going straight and the road turns to gravel. Two hundred yards later the trail crosses the road. This is the intersection between sections 1 and 2, and where one DR will enter. A mile or so farther, following straight down the gravel road, the SORBA/CSRA trailer will be parked beside the road at the intersection of 3 and 4. That's where I plan on entering section 4. MD

The first section coming out of the parking lot going CW (that is a left going up the hill to start) is section 1. Cross the gravel, section 2.....section 5 climbs back to the parking lot. We will ride it 2-3-4-5-1. There will be a sag stop at the entrance to 2 that you will ride by twice. The original Dark Star loop was 1-2-3- Wine - Turkey - Modoc- 4 -5. Last years SMC was 1-2-3-4-Wine-Turkey-Modoc-5. I'd love to see the bridge on Miller Road get fixed and we can use Miller Road coming off of 230. But the county has to fix it, not us.

8:30 Ok w/me. I can help out Saturday (09/11) morning. Turn off 230 (Martintown Rd.) and head toward Lick Fork Rec Area. MD I agree, with most, except ... after the pavement turns to gravel, and few hundred yards the trail crosses the gravel road (end of section 1 & start of section 2). If you keep going, there will be another gravel road on the right (Miller Branch Rd is what Google Earth call's it, but I thought it was Miller Bridge Rd) if you turn right and go downhill, the trail will cross this gravel road just before the bottom of the hill & bridge. There is a free parking area there and is the end of section 4 & start of section 5. If you do not take the first right and continue on Lick Fork Rd, there will be another gravel road on the right (seond right), if you turn right here (Miller Rd) and go about 120 yards the trail will cross the road (end of section 3 & start of section 4). I think this is where MD is parking. If you do not take the second right and continue on the gravel road goes down a long big hill, and just before the bottom of the hill and concrete "bridge" over Horn Creek, the trail crosses the road (end of 2 & start of 3). Inside the "park" @ the boat ramp parking lot is the Trail head (Start of section 1 & end of section 5). Too much info?

"I'd love to see the bridge on Miller Road get fixed and we can use Miller Road coming off of 230. But the county has to fix it, not us. "
I went down there this weekend, the Bridge is still out and that little section of red clay/rock face road is not getting any traffic because of the bridge and is in rough shape & washed out, too rough for a car, but purfect for a mountain bike. There is one pine across the road about 3' above the road bed. There is a deer crossing trail developing just beside the broken bridge. Would be cool to ride this road (Miller)and cross there. Then up & out to Martintown or take Gilbert to Martintown, those are nice quiet fun gravel road to ride. So no bridge = no Miller?

Here is a map of Lick Fork Rec Area and the Horn Creek Trail. Blue is paved. Yellow is gravel. Red is Horn Creek Trail. Except for the red line going from 422 to 12 s/b yellow as that is a gravel rd. I have where I think M Drawdy is going to park and where Eric is going to park. Each of the 5 sections of trail are numbered. We have me, Eric, MD and David K. Others?

If I can get out early Saturday, I think I will go straight to Turkey Creek and hedge the section near the boardwalks. MD - you cut a huge tree out that was quagmire in this location. It is the only thing on Turkey that is kinda bad.
Then drive over to where Eric is parked and run the hedger down to where he is mowing.

I should be there; I was thinking I would start on Sect 1 with the hedger about 7:30 and then go to Sect 5. If the DRs will make it all the way around, I will just work on the higher branches and can probably make it most of the way around. Will need a 2nd hedger to complete the loop. I think last work party here, Marco and I used the hedgers all the way around and Michael/crew on one DR and Daniel/crew on the other cut 2,3, and 4? I've forgotten who all was there.

Section one could honestly use a DR cut. The hedgers don't usually do too well on low-lying grasses.
Here's my thoughts on the whole thing: HC, unfortunately, doesn't see a tenth of the traffic it used to see. The primary objective here is to get the trail rideable for an upcoming event where every participant rides the loop one time. The secondary objective is to get the loop reasonably rideable for the next year or so, and to clear a couple of areas that are flat not rideable right now. We don't have enough people at this point to do the entire loop with the DR.
If we get several more volunteers and can space out the DR work, then that's one thing. I just know that the HKSP work day, doing the full loop, flat cut our tails. I saw some tired puppies that day, and that does not keep people coming back to help another day.

BV, when do you plan on getting a hedger? I need to get gas Thursday evening for the 50:1 crowd and the DRs. I also plan on riding Thursday after work. That leaves two hedgers and two DRs in the trailer. No gas though, until late Thursday.
JT has one hedger and the string trimmer in his possession. Talked to him this afternoon and he will be tearing up sections 1 and 5 early Saturday.

I thought I saw a fancy looking mower on the back of Oddcouple's truck a few weeks ago. Is that a personal mower or something for SORBA CSRA to demo??? Seenvic it is a personal mower. We bought it for our land on Woodlawn RD.If we need to use it on the 11th I would be glad to help if we are not having a Baby. No way I can be there guys sorry I made the commitment and can't make it.No baby, shes not due until the 22nd.

Here's what I see happening so far: - We have DavidK., JT, BV, MD, Yetichick, EdgeE and Paul F signed up. Let's be ready to get moving NLT 8:30am at intersection of 1/2. -- BV, EdgeE and DavidK take off with a DR and hedge trimmer into section 2. Plan on doing the entire section. We will drop off additional fuel 20' before the end of section 2 for you to refuel. -- JT takes off with a hedger into sections 1 and 5. -- Myself, YC and PaulF head off into section 4 with a DR and a hedger. We plan on going 100 yards past the bridge ( the sand just before you hit the new dips and the short climb), then turning around and heading back. I hope this clicks with everyone. This post does not preclude any additional folks from deciding they would like to help and just showing up! We really need/could use one additional person to walk with JonT and clear the debris he cuts. Hint, hint! We will have cold ice water. We will bring the tools. If you want something else, then BYO. I should be able to come out and help follow Jon T and clear his debris, or whatever is needed. My g/f was in a bad wreck sunday, so I've been in and out of the hospital with her, She's going to try to go back to work saturday till 3pm, so I'll need to be back before then to pick her up seeing how we are down to one vehicle till the insurance gives me a check. So count me in unless an emergency comes up with her between now and then.

Remind me to ride well ahead of her because between taking a header off that bridge and getting in a wreck, I don't want be close to that black cloud following her around...

So if she needed to call you to come get her earlier than originally planed, she can't.
