I don't plan to fix the first bridge pictured. Fixed it too many times and there are other options there.
The second bridge has to be fixed, per Wooglin.
JC - just bring your stuff at 7am for the bridge. We'll figure it out.

I don't mind working on the bridge but a 9am start time is a little late for as hot as it's been......I can bring a come-along, a sling and some chain and a cart to haul it in. Jimmy, like you, I need to beat the heat. I will be there at 7 as well and go in with you to the bridge.

I'll be there at 7 AM, can work 2-3 hours before my pass expires. I didn't see a post from him on here but I am pretty sure that Money will be there too.

This is really coming together nicely.
Folks coming: BV, Paul, Tim D, Dustin, John Pace, Mark Y, Jimmy C., T Zeaser, Dale Parrot, Mark Hanna, Eric Huston, E Scott, J Weekly. I bet we end up with 15-17 people.
Tenative plan. I will meet Tim D at 6:30AM at Key Bridge to unload equipment. A 4 person crew of DR, Hedger, chainsaw and lopper from Key Br. Tim D drives to 283 and unloads equipment. 4 person crew of DR, Hedger, Lopper, chainsaw from 283. May not send chainsaws in both sides.
Bridge. Mark Y and one other person plan to get there with crowbars, hammers, comealong. Mark Y plans to ride into the bridge and start to disassemble it. We will also send 3-4 person crew walking to first bridge to help move it back into place and put it back together.
That is 13-14 people. If we have more people, we will send them into the "big dip". This can be accessed from Key Road and short walk in. They will work toward Key Bridge and have a weedeater and hedger that Mark Hanna is bringing. I may need to be in this group to be sure they find the trail and not just wander around the woods looking for it. I'd say they get in, tie 3-4 flags where they start working and go south. Then the 4 person crew coming in from 283 knows to turn around at the flags.
If you have a GPS unit, bring it. We may need to waypoint trees to cut if we can't get to them.
Thoughts?

Is the bridge needing the work closer from Key or should we go in from 283?

Is the bridge needing the work closer from Key or should we go in from 283? Good question. I think the answer could be neither. It is not from 283, for sure. Tough call as it depends on where the bridge is located. If really close to the big dip, the middle of the trail is the best way in. If at the lowest point on my yellow line estimate, the best way is probably on the trail from Key Bridge. I'd probably go in from Key Bridge just to be safe.

I can also work tomorrow. I can work on the trail or bridges. I can bring hammer, small pry bar, cordless drill and circular saw, I have also used the DR's. Let me know what time to show up.

Be at Key Bridge at 7AM. I am getting there at 6:30AM, I hope.
Sunday is out as far as I know. No momentum for Sunday. Huge momentum for Saturday. Hope to get it all done Saturday.
Has anyone else ever parked on Key Rd and walked into the middle of the trail via a left onto the gas line and a right into a clearing in the woods?

I've done that walk once w/BV. Park across from the FS workstation & walk in for about 10 min.

That was great. 16 people. Wine Creek is clear to ride. The bridge that was out is still out. I doubt we can fix it. The decking has been removed and put on the location of the bridge. The stingers and supports for the stringers are another matter. I'd say the best we got is hike - a - bike thru that. We made it easier than it was.
One DR went from Key Bridge to the broken bridge, which Dale P says was exactly 2 miles on his computer, and back in about 2 hours. A hedger went in behind it and made it about 1.5 miles and turned around. There are a few trees down in this section that are good riders and another one that couldn't be cut that is diagonal across the trail. Maybe really short riders can get under it.
I came in from the middle, dropped gas at the Big Dip and worked toward Key Bridge with loppers to the broken bridge. That section is ok, but as it gets on the creek, the loppers were overmatched. There are a few trees to ride over in here and I think 1 or 2 that need to be cut out.
The other DR ran from 283 to the Big Dip and back. I did not see this section, but Paul said it is perfect now. I don't think there are any tree issue above the Big Dip.
It was great day. Wine Creek is open to ride. The broken bridge is still a difficult hike a bike, but not as bad as yesterday. The boardwalk like bridge also got moved by the flood and is now off the trail by 4-6 feet. The line didn't look completely unrideable, though.
Thanks to those who came out today and worked.
Wine Creek needs wheels.
Would be great to get on Turkey Creek next. Stay tuned.

Still a few face slappers from the bridge washout back to Key. If anyone rides, pack you hand pruners and knock out the few that are left.

After I made it back from Wine into the parking area & giving BV a call, I took the DR down Turkey. Didn't make it more then about 1/2 mile before a large tree blocked the trail. I did manage to get the most overgrown area of the trail (except for the last 2 miles) cut. So the next work party can start from the gravel road.

The section you mowed was done perfectly. Then I grabbed the mower where you left it to mow some on Turkey Creek. We got there and saw you had already done it. Good thinking and good work.
