The Canal Moonlight TT is rapidly approaching. We had a good group ride the trail last night. The ground was in surprisingly good condition, BUT things overhead were not. It's going to take a good bit of lopping to cut out all the low hanging branches and debris. Nothing big just a lot of little trees and branches that got weighted down low due to the snow. All it will take is some loppers and a hand saw.
I'll be out of town the rest of this week so if anyone wants to put together a cutting crew, you will race for free. When I get back in town I can go to the trail one morning if any extra work is needed. If it stays dry until next Thursday we should have great race conditions!
Race days are 02/25 and 03/04

I'll lead a small group. 3 or 4 people can knock this out quickly and easily.
Meet at the main trailhead at 2:00pm on Sunday. Bring some loppers, and a small handsaw if you have one. I have both of these if someone would like to work but doesn't have the tools - we can also get more from the SORBA trailer - but I need to know in advance if someone needs them.
I'll probably bring a shovel and rake too, in case there's any ground work that needs doing.
Also want to take a look at a re-route option around THE HOLE.

Julie and I plan on being there Sunday. Do I need to bring a chain saw?

I don't think so....Drew didn't mention any big trees down.

I rode from the house to the trail and spent 2 1/2 hrs. riding and clearing a ton of stuff. There isn't much lopping left to do but it could use 1-2 loppers. I didn't have loppers but the majority of the stuff was broken branches caught on vines and other trees. I managed to break a lot of it by hand, pull it down and push it out of the trail. If y'all go out there tomorrow the stuff that definitely needs loppers to clear is on the riverside of the trail. Take your bikes and ride too, the work shouldn't take more than 30 mins. or so unless you tackle the hole or the mud pit. Ground is perfect for carving minus the two wet spots.

Thanks for the update and the work! I'll take my bike for sure.
JP3 - I may be a bit later than 2 getting there. I'm meeting Randy at 1:30 to look at a trailer to use for bike transport for the summit. We're meeting at Enterprise Mill. I'll just ride my bike from there.
Where do you want to meet me? The bridge where you usually meet up w/the Weds ride?

Another two hours of work, by 4 of us, and the Canal Trail is ready to rip. Two muddy spots, one's not too bad. The other, water is running down the trail.
Which spot is the boardwalk going? Where the railroad ties and bricks are, or where the drainage pipe was put in? The worst spot is where the pipe was put in...that's where the water is running down the trail.
Saw lots of other riders. A few older guys, two groups of kids. Maybe 12 people total...only 3 had helmets on.

Thanks to everyone for putting in some work on the trail. Now we've got to hope this rain moves out quick.
dg- The boardwalk is going in at the lower section where the bricks and RR ties are. It will span that entire roughly 90ft section.

Thanks Drew and Dustin for taking the lead on this trail which should have been worked on years ago but wasn't due to lack of interest. Funny how things can change due to certain circumstances.
Exaltations for both of you.
