Nice wet snow last night and we had neighborhood snowball fight. Snow is too dry now for snowman Can't even join you and BW for a ride; we're not going anywhere fast. Neighbor's tree went through their fence and across our driveway.

rode last night in the yard/driveway while trying to avoid snowballs from my daughters. I got them back ;D First tracks on Bartram today. Rode from Petersburg to Lake Springs. Had to stop numerous times to shake the snow of limbs that were blocking the trail. A few times I got it down the back The trail was snow covered in places, fine in others. The view from the airstrip was nice. All covered with snow with the trees on the farside toped with it also. Only problem I had was my pedals/cleats would ice up and would be hard to click in. On the way back came across two hikers. A lot of fun. have some pics but do not know how to post them.

What's the difference between riding a wet trail and riding a snowy trail?

What's the difference between riding a wet trail and riding a snowy trail? You know, I was trying to not say anything, but... - Why is anyone out riding any trail right now? Sure we all say that the other trails are older and more established and drain better than the holy grail called FATS, but with the amount of moisture the SE has seen in the past six months, it should be pavel riding. At the rate we are going, it may be a couple of months before the trails are rideable. MD Now, back to workparty schedules...

1. trails that are snow covered tend to be frozen while wet trails tend to be muddy.
I was wet BUT it was from snow coming off the braches and then melting. My bike has very little dirt on it. Measurable snow (from what I have heard) is very rare in the CSRA. I feel there should be exceptions for days like that. SORBA-Woodstock felt the same way and opened Blankets for one (2/13/10) snowday.

I did enjoy the pics, Brian. I followed Dustin's idea - rode around a bunch in the yard. Got to test out the grip in snow - did a whole lot better than I expected - and cleaned off the very muddy tires

I rode some yesterday though the woods normally ridden by motorcycles around my house. All of the mud stayed below the snow and my tires remained perfectly clean. Of course you were one person and two tires.

I only rode up and down the street. I really wanted to ride Keg Saturday morning, while the temps were still below freezing. But my car isn't well suited to snowy conditions. 3" of ground clearance, 5" of snow....you do the math.
