My grandfather used to always ask me if I'd heard the latest news? When I'd say no, he'd say "It ain't out yet!" Well it's been a little while since I've posted any latest news so this morning I am going to try to get back into keeping you informed on the latest developments with what's going on in SORBA-CSRA.
First up - The Explore the Trails Series Ride to be held this weekend at Hickory Knob State Park Lake Loop has been cancelled due to wet trail conditions. Seems like all this wet weather is good for is getting some trail work done, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Second - Don't forget to attend the upcoming SORBA-CSRA Monthly Meeting Tuesday Feb 9 held at upstairs Nacho Mommas downtown near 10th and Broad Streets. The meeting starts at 7:30pm but get there early for some good food and a good seat! You won't want to miss the latest developments in our planned support for the 2010 IMBA World Summit.
Third - A group of 6 - 10 brand new SORBA members from a brand new SORBA Chapter located in Wilmington, NC are coming here on February 20 for a Bike Patrol training class that I will be conducting for them at Ft Gordon. They want to get their Chapter started with a Bike Patrol group and I think that's great! I've already invited them to come back here in May and ride patrol with us for the Summit. I've also heard from other groups from as far away as Tennessee who are interested in attending Bike Patrol training classes here! And if there is anyone who would like to get in on this class being held on Feb 20, just send me a note to let me know you'll be coming. I'll fill you in on all the details.
Fourth - Speaking of the Summit...as you may or may not know, I've put out the call to all Bike Patrollers to come to Augusta to help us out during the Summit. So far I have heard from groups located in Asheville, NC, Atlanta, Athens, Woodstock, Gainesville, and Gwinnett County, GA! I'm hoping to get a handful from each group that will ride with one of our Patrollers who are more familiar with the trails so we can provide our best support for the Summit. This is getting exciting!
Fifth - Trail work has been going on like nobody's business these past few months! Last weekend, we had as many as FIVE separate work parties taking place at FATS, the Canal Singletrack, and Hickory Knob! We are getting some serious trail work done and making them better for years to come for all to enjoy! Keep up the good work! Folks are bringing their kids to come help out and I think that is the best example of showing how our sport is a Family sport! These kids will grow up with an understanding that it is important to give back to something worth having. So if you'd like to get involved with a work party too, just keep an eye out on the forum to see who's doing what where and plan to join up! There is an upcoming party planned for this weekend on Feb 7th and I hope to see you there!
Sixth - Some guys are working on creating some awesome maps for our trail system using GPS. I've seen some examples and they are fantastic! When you see Dustin G or David K, tell them they are greatly appreciated! This is exactly the kind of thing we'll need not only for the Summit and the Bike Patrol, but also just to have for new riders who visit our trails.
Well that's about all the news I have right now but I'll do my best to keep you posted with what's going on.
Be safe!
