Looking for a few volunteers for this one. Saturday, 21 November 2009. The USFS allowed quite a bit of logging in sections 2 and 4 of Horn Creek this year. The result is a lot of undergrowth gone wild! We need to run the DR mowers in sections 2 and 4. That is maybe a 2 hour job. Additionally, seenvic stated that he would like to armor the switchback area in section 4 that has become a blowout. The SORBA/CSRA trailer will be there. Two DR mowers, a DR power wagon and a lot of tools. We need volunteers! RSVP me at michael dot drawdy at comcast dot net if you can make it. All help is appreciated. MD

Could use a few more volunteers, but we'll take what we can get.
Looks like BV, EdgeE and RH will hit the bricks. MD and YC will hit one section with a DR mower, while Marco will hit the other. We may need to do a little chainsawing but that will take a backseat to the aforementioned.
Any others out there want to join us?
MD

Great work party. Had three groups working in three areas, with great results. BV took his twins with him to the wash-out area in section 4, and was joined by EdgeE, Eric, and RH. The work they performed on the switchback was extremely professional, and very rideable. Marco hit sections 1 and 2 with the DR mower, while myself and YC cut section 4 and the opening of 3 with a DR mower. Invisible sections of trail suddenly became old-school Horn Creek! Thanks to those that showed up. Sweat equity typically goes unnoticed in trail work, but Horn is a special place and I sincerely appreciate the efforts. Just waiting on my FS Epic Horn is a rooty son-of-a-gun! MD

Just waiting on my FS Epic Horn is a rooty son-of-a-gun! MD That was a great day of work. Been a while since I've done that. Man, I simply enjoy it. As soon as this rain stops, I am heading to FATS to work there. It is fun. I got there early with my two 4 year old twins and sussed out the situation. For some reason, I pictured the situation different than what it turned out to be. I thought you rode over the deep rut at the top and the bottom, and made a small wooden bridge to gap the rut at the top. Bridge was heavy to carry down there and we didn't even use it. Soon Eric and Eric showed up with the powerwagon and the bricks. Russell not far behind them. The four of us, and the twins, proceeded to place the bricks, gather local rocks and dig a small borrow pit for dirt. About 3 hours later, we were done. The bottom has a nice solid armored line that water should drain right over. The rut is full of bricks and rocks and can actually be ridden. Be we also made a line around the entire rut that will be the main line. It turned out well for a switchback not done correctly in the first place. A big thanks to all that showed up. We needed every bit of muscle we had to move the large rocks we found.

What a perfect day of trail work- good people, good weather, and a good plan of attack. With a handfull of hard workers, I think we got the place back in shape. I can't wait to get out for a ride & see how things turned out from the saddle, but things looked good on the hike out.
Thanks to MD & YC for all the behind the scene set up & break down work involved with having a successful work party.
Thanks to all who helped out & making for a fun day on the trail!
