14? Is it raining trees out there? Wow. We had ridden out there several times this past week and knew of trees on sections 1 and the end of 3. Cut those out, then went to ride. When we hit the beginning of section 3 there were a ton of trees that had fallen in the past 48 hours. Lots of "grab your bike and meander through the crap" kind of stuff. Since we had the equipment in the Explorer, we went back in, parked down by the concrete bridges, and took them out. Many were face or chest height. Not riders. MD

Thats a lot of trees in a short time. Must've had a better front than we had over here.

The trees took us by surprise. We looked at each other and said "When did we get enough wind to do this?" Friday morning it was a bit windy, but we rode the trail around noon and there weren't any trees down on that section.

Nice ride today. Waited until around 11am to give the hunters time. Then we headed out. Knocked out a couple laps. Trail is, like most of them this time of the year, perfection. Came across another rider at the winter parking lot. He had already ridden the trail, and asked about other trails in the area since FATS was off limits today. I recommended Turkey. Hope he found my directions complete and he had a great ride there. Said he lives in Asheville but was raised in Aiken. P.S. No, he was not wearing orange. No, I will not say he was an idiot. We came across a half dozen riders on the Bartram Trail Tuesday evening, as shots rang out around us. We don't all read the forums and pat ourselves on the back.

MD, nobody has t read the forum and pat themselves on the back; signs are clearly posted on Bartram about wearing orange. Most we encountered this morning didn't have it either.

Trail in great shape today. Couple of trees down. Not riders, but no biggie.
Knocked out a couple of laps, did quite a bit of gravel (that sure does give one a workout!), then headed back on section 3. Crossed over a large stick. Next thing I know I have a broken derailleur hanger and XTR derailleur. Oh well, first one in over two years. Got spares at the house.
Life's good, and the trails are prime. Plan on hitting a whole bunch this weekend.

Trail's in perfect condition. Go crunch some leaves. MD I would, but the leaves harbor traps. A leaf covered root on Keg spun my bar into a tree and threw me down. Could I fall in the leaves and straw? Nooooooo...; I had to plant my previously skinned up knee on a root and peel all the just healed hide back off of it.... If you see me riding with knee pads, don't ask..

What size bars are you running? A good 27 - 29" bar gives you quite a bit of leverage against those hiding obstacles. Then again, I have seen full face helmets and plenty of armor around here. MD
