Sorry to hear about your "Vanilla Tongue Syndrome" Mark Y. I'd almost be embarrassed to admit you can't tell the difference between "Taco Snail" and the other establishments. And I would wager you wouldn't know good collard greens from boiled grass clippings either! Seriously, it isn't vanilla tongue so much as it is the food isn't my favorite. Cheap Mexican, expensive Mexican; it is all still Mexican and has the same basic ingredients, a lot of which I find ordinary. Nonetheless, I vote with the majority on Nacho Mama's, for the atmosphere if nothing else. I like all of the downtown cafes; we ate at Blue Sky last night.

I agree that the Mexican restaurant by Dairy Queen is hands down the best in Augusta, I didn't even know what was on the menu since it is only in Spanish but I ordered and it was great. the only disadvantage was you had to order chips and salsa, but it was made fresh.
Mia Ranchos at Bell Air and Columbia road is good as well as Las Lomas about 1/2 mile north of I-20 on Bell Air Rode is also good, but they have the same menu as most of the Mexican restaurants in the area.
Margaritas across the street from the Cracker Barrel off of I-20 at Bell Air Rd is also very good with a few more varieties on the menu.
I myself usually go to Margaritas or Las Lomas
