Anybody interested in doing some mowing at FATS before the end of the month?
I know Deep Step & Great Wall could benefit from it and I imagine the other loops could as well.
I'll be out of town next weekend but the weekends of the 20th and the 27th, I am more than willing to run a DR if we can get them to the trails.

I am taking a week's vacation just to get some things done on my sailboat, go to a baseball game on Tuesday, and just generally step back from the rat race. If anyone is going to do some trimming or light trail maintenance I will be glad to tag along and do some too. Most any day but Tuesday works for me.

Deep Step needs it worse than GW. Mainly on the northern side of the loop. East of the powerlines on the northern side has several spots that would benefit from the DR. The very top would as well.
I am going out there Monday night to meet a scouting leading to show him some potential tread repairs that an eagle scout may tackle. Meeting is Tuesday night and I plan to attend that.
I could maybe go out there Thursday evening.

I am available all day June 13th and 14th. I can run a DR or the hedge-trimmers. Seems like just about every trail in the CSRA needs trimming.

I can run a DR, but can't it get to FATS.
I have a plan mapped out for the northern side of Deep Step. 3-4 main spots need to be mowed, and I think I have the first one and the last one completely scoped out as to where the mower goes in and where it exits. The middle spot(s) is/are tougher to decipher and I need to think about it a little after I download the waypoints onto a map. Actually, the middle may be better served w/ the hedgetrimmer.
I think the first task is to figure out how we get the equipment to the FATS. It is about 10 minutes away, very close to Sportsman Corner. We'd need a truck to pull the SORBA trailer over to FATS.

Depending on when you are doing this, I can tow stuff with my 4x4 Jeep G. Cherk.
I'm out of town the 18th-28th of June, and July 10th-20th.

What is the size of the hitch we need? I am guessing 2".

Paul and/or MD would know the hitch size.

The mowers are in Greenwood and are coming back tomorrow via Tom Austin. I just talked to Tom on another issue and he told me about having the mowers. He has court down here tomorrow and is bringing them with him.

FYI, I'll be running one of the DRs this weekend at Horn Creek. The Ladies' Skills Clinic will be there and if anyone remembers section 2 during the SMC, you know it won't be passable by the end of June.
I have been in email contact with Tom for the past week to ensure I got the DRs back in time to get HC mowed. I am meeting him Tuesday afternoon.

No one has contacted me about getting the trailer, so I am thinking this may have lost a bit of steam for Saturday the 13th. Additionally, BV mentioned he would not be available to do any work that day.
All that said, at this point I plan on taking both DRs out to Horn Saturday morning. Several people have expressed interest in helping do some work there, and we plan on starting at 9am. The DRs and trailer will be available for other work Sunday on.
If anyone has any issues with this, call or email me.

I didn't plan on this Saturday. I'm doing the ride w/ the Greenwood crew from LCHT to HKSP on Saturday.
I'm still up for doing this. Just not this Saturday.

Above is the map of Deep Step for the mowing of the North Side. Only two areas really need the DR badly, and another just needs to be hit with the hedger on a stick. The spot "exit 1" is flagged from the trail to the paved road. We hit spot 1, then exit, then hit spot 3 with the same mower. One other person could be hitting the "hedger" spot. The "arm" and A2 etc....are spots that need armoring. We'll do that later. Gully means that spot is developing gully erosion and needs some serious help or it will be 2 feet deep in a year or so. I should have marked the southern side of Deep Step Rd powerlines as needing the hedger as well.

Can we plan to do this on June 27th? Tomorrow morning some of us will be downtown and some will be helping Dale with a bridge up at the lake and tomorrow afternoon will be very hot.
Next weekend squeezes it in before July 4th followed by Bike Patrol training the following Saturday on the 11th. If we show up early, we can probably get it done before it gets too hot in the afternoon.
I already have experience with the stick trimmer so I volunteer to tackle those areas.
Is this a good time for everybody else?

I'd be willing to run the DR on section 1 & 3.
27th not good for me. That is my twins birthday and I am sure I am doing something for that.
If someone can get the DR out there on Sunday or in the evening next week, I will meet you out there. I think two people could do the section 1 & 3 safely and quickly.

I'm good for this Sunday if you want to do it then. I think I can get the trimmer from MD.
