We are tentatively scheduling an upcoming NMBP Bike Patrol training class for Saturday, June 27, 2009. The class will be held at the USFS Visitor Center on the South Carolina side of Clarks Hill Dam. It will begin at 9:00 AM and last for about three hours. To become a member of the NMBP, you must complete the NMBP Bike Patrol training class, take the online Bike Patrol Exam, and be certified in Adult CPR/First Aid. Being a member of the Bike Patrol is a rewarding experience and gives you an opportunity to give something back to this sport. The Bike Patrol is made up of volunteers whose only purpose is to Assist, Educate, and Inform those who share our wonderful trail systems. We provide first aid, assistance with trailside bike repairs, guidance to those who need directons, information regarding trail conditions, and education to those who'd like to become better and safer riders. Visit www.imba.com/nmbp/index.html for more information. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Bike Patrol, please send me an email (j.liebe3@comcast.net) with your contact information so you can be added to the class roster. Check your calendars to see if this date works for you and I will update this post once the date becomes locked in. Hope to see you there! Be safe! JL

To take a lesson from the popular 1950s TV star, Gumby...be flexible.
With that in mind, I received an email from the COE stating that they've unknowingly double booked the Visitor Center conference room for June 27th: Boating Safety & Bike Patrol Training. So they asked me for some alternate dates. No big deal.
I asked them if we can move it up to the 20th and if that doesn't work, how about July 11th?
I'm waiting to hear back from them but I thought I'd keep you posted on the developments. I'll certainly post the date they give us as soon as possible.
Sorry for any inconvenience. JL

John, Are you going to do the CPR certification at the class or will we need to do that another way?

Mark, you'll need to get in touch with Charlie Mock. He's an EMT out at Ft Gordon and just happens to be the head of our Bike Patrol group. He is an excellent instructor! He'll be happy to get you squared away so you can meet the CPR/First Aid requirement.
His username is charlesjm3
Glad to hear you are interested in becoming a patroller! Don't worry about getting your CPR/First Aid certification completed before the Bike Patrol Training class. You can do that anytime, but you will need it to become a member of the patrol.

July would work better for me as the 20th is Father's Day weekend. Just let me know. Should I go to the NMBP website and fill out the forms?

Mark, you sure can visit the NMBP website. Here's a link: www.imba.com/nmbp/index.htmlAs for forms, you'll need to print out the NMBP Membership form. Once you've completed the CPR/FIRST Aid certification, you'll need to attach a copy of your certification card to the filled out form. Then it's just a matter of taking the course, passing the test, and sending in your form and membership dues. If you want, you can take the test anytime. It's multiple choice and isn't too difficult. You'll need to make your web browser accept cookies before it will allow you to access the test itself. To do that, open the browser, select tools, internet options, privacy, then select the lowest setting for the Internet zone. That just means your browser now accepts cookies. Then after you take the test, go back into your privacy page and change your settings back to whatever you prefer. Let me know how you do! Good Luck! JL

We have a new date for our first NMBP Bike Patrol Training Class! The new date is July 11, 2009. Same start time, same location.
After talking to a couple of students, the July date works better for them so perhaps the date change was a blessing in disguise. I'm really looking forward to conducting the class and getting some more Bike Patrol visibility out on the trails!
Be safe! JL
