WOW! It's hard to believe that April is almost over! The time has flown by and that's not surprising with all the activities that have taken place this month.
The Best Dam Ride was a big success with 317 official riders taking part in it on April 19th. There were approximately 30 mountain bike riders that passed through our SAG stop on the Bartram Trail. It was nice to see so many families taking part in it.
Yesterday they had quite a big turnout taking part in the Ladies' Ride with 13 riders up at the Bartram Trail! It's nice to see this group growing in size and popularity. Way to go Ladies!
Don't forget April 28th is the last day to pre-register for the upcoming Sumter Metric Century Ride taking place on May 16th. You can register right up to the day of the event but you'll miss out on a chance to get a commemorative hat if you don't pre-register. You can use the link on our home page to register if you like. I think they are expecting over 60 riders to participate and I hope they get that and more. I look forward to seeing you all at the registration tent that morning!
We're going to have another work party at Wine Creek this Saturday May 2nd in preparation for the SMC. We had a lot of rain the night before our last work party that prevented a lot of the work from being accomplished. That's why we need you to show up and help out! We'll meet at the Key Bridge Wine/Turkey parking lot at 9:00 AM. There's an adventure race taking place that day that will use Wine Creek as part of its course. So we'll have to keep an eye out for those race participants and not interfere with them as we work on the trails. They are aware of us being there and we are aware of them so we should be okay if we all keep an eye out for each other. Please come out and help!
The Explore the Trail Series Ride is this Sunday May 3rd at Long Cane Horse Trail up near Greenwood. The final details have not been released yet but I think it will start around 1:00 PM. I'm not sure where we're meeting but I'll post it on the forum as soon as I find out. I hope we have a big turn out for that!
The Lock-to-Lock Ride registration is open for the ride taking place on May 17th. It's a prefect cool down ride for the SMC participants! I'm looking forward to the relaxing pace without having to keep my bike between the trees on the trail.
I'm also looking forward to the Sno-Cones on the return trip! Contact Andy Jordan's Bicycle Warehouse for more information and registration.
I'm proud to say that the SORBA-CSRA NMBP Bike Patrol is up and running! I've been out on patrol at most of the loops on FATS the past couple of weeks and have had a few opportunities to Assist, Educate, and Inform already. I'm trying out a new hydration/backpack that allows me to carry 3 liters of water, a first aid kit, repair tools, maps, my camera, and spare inner tubes. It feels heavy when you pick it up but hardly noticeable when you put it on your back. Cool. I'm looking forward to being joined by other members of the Bike Patrol so pretty soon, you'll see more of us out there. Don't forget, I'm planning to conduct a Bike Patrol training class in June so if you are interested in becoming a member of the patrol, please let me know. In the meantime, if you see me on the trail, stop by and say "Hello" and let me know if you need anything. We're here to help.
Until next time...Be safe!
