We had a good turnout at our monthly meeting last night with about 15 people in attendance. Some noteworthy news items are:
Best Dam Ride this Sunday!!...Sunday!!...Sunday!!...
We now have a ride leader for the mountain bikers thanks to Jon Taylor. Another couple has offered their help as ride sweepers if they are in town. I apologize for not remembering their names (Senior moment). Vicky & I will man the SAG tent at the half way point at the Lake Spring trailhead.
Wine Creek Work Party Take #2!!
After last Friday's rain put a damper on the amount of work we could accomplish at the April 11th Wine Creek work party, it was decided to schedule another go at it for May 2nd. There's still a lot of work that needs to be done before the Sumter Metric Century Ride on May 16th so hopefully, with good weather, we'll be able to get it all accomplished. Please volunteer to help out if you can!
Speaking of the SMC!!
So far there are about 25 people registered for the ride and about 10 people on the volunteer list. Of course the participant list is expected to grow significantly as the date grows nearer. We'll need a few more volunteers to make sure we have enough people to man the 3 SAG stops, registration, and cooking up some food at the end of the ride. Bottom line...we need more riders and more volunteers to make this a success! If you feel up to it, sign up to ride! If you know your limitations (like me), sign up to volunteer! Events like these make our Chapter look GRRRrrrrrrrrrr8!!!
Lock to Lock Ride Registration is now OPEN!!
Visit www.andyjordans.com to sign up now. Early registrants save $10 by registering before the event on May 17th. They expect a large turnout again for this annual event and from the looks of it, it will be a lot of fun! I've already signed up. This will be my first time participating in this ride and I am truly looking forward to it! Hope you'll join us!
Explore the Trail Series Ride at Long Cane Horse Trail!!
The next stop in this popular ride series is the Long Cane Horse Trail on May 3rd located near Greenwood, SC. This is another trail I haven't ridden yet so I am looking forward to seeing what all the excitement is about. Of course, I'll probably be the last guy in again but it's all a part of training to become World Champion someday! More details about this ride later.
Chain Saw Certification Training this Saturday!!
Several folks have signed up to take part in the Chain Saw Certification/Re-Certification Training offered by the US Forest Service at the USFS Edgefield work station starting at 8:00am.
First Aid/CPR Certification Training next Saturday!!
Taking place a week from Saturday on April 25th. Charlie Mock will be providing the training. This is a perfect opportunity to get this requirement out of the way if you'd like to become a member of the Bike Patrol or if you are one of the folks needing it for Chain Saw certification.
What's New with the SORBA-CSRA NMBP?
I announced that I've received the training material needed to conduct the NMBP Patrollers Training Course from IMBA. With everything that's going on this month and next, we'll schedule a class to take place some time in June or July after everybody's had a chance to rest up from all the activities. The new material looks great and I am excited about conducting the next class. We've also sent in the application form to have our own SORBA-CSRA NMBP Group. This means our Chapter will be listed under the NMBP Groups on the NMBP website and have an official affiliation with IMBA/NMBP. Many thanks to Charlie Mock for being our SORBA-CSRA NMBP Group Director!
Keep an eye on the NMBP message board for further updates!
Well that's about all I can remember for now except that the burrito was excellent as usual! If you haven't been to one of our monthly meetings lately, come on out next month to Nacho Mama's on Tuesday May 12th. The meeting starts at 7:30 PM but show up early if you want to see for yourself why I'm crazy about these burritos!
See you on the trail!
