MARCH 21st - LADIES RIDE: Our first Ladies Ride was a huge success. We had 9 riders, and everyone had a great time. Our next ride is scheduled for Sunday, March 22, 2009. We will meet at 1:00 p.m. at the FATS trailhead (weather and trail conditions permitting). All ladies are encouraged to show up. This is a no-drop ride. Feel free to join us! If you have any questions, email Barbara at barbara.drawdy@comcast.net.
DATE CHANGE>> MAY 16th - Sumter Metric Century - This event is scheduled for May 16, 2009 - registration is now open! Go to www.sorbacsra.org and follow the links for more info.
Horn Creek Trail Update - Lick Fork recreation area is closing December 15, 2008 and will reopen April 1, 2009. The USFS has, as you know, built a very nice gravel parking area just a mile or so past the entrance to Lick Fork. Brand new kiosk. Excellent access to the Horn Creek trail. There is no fee to use the other parking area, and no fee therefore to ride the trail.
Trail News - Some areas on the trails are remaining wet up to a week after a rain. Please be conscious of trail conditions and ride responsibly so we can preserve our excellent trails.
FATS - Wet trails have kept several sections of FATS closed, please refer to the sorbacsra.org website for updates on trail conditions.
Turkey Creek - Trail in pretty good shape there are three trees down and Michael and Barbara Drawdy will set up a mini work party soon to have them removed!
Wine Creek- Poor condition, Wine Creek breeched Its bank and as has happened in the past the debris is scattered on the trail and a work party is needed badly as overgrowth also needs to be cut.
Horn Creek/Lick Fork - Trail in pretty good shape, a few slightly mucky areas.
Hickory Knob - Trail in good condition - multiple rider trees down and a least two that are too big to be ridden and need to be cut out - there are some slight mucky areas that remain for a while after rain.
Canal Off-Road - Many thanks to the crew who have been making efforts to clear this trail and repair some wet areas!
Modoc - In good condition - some riders and non-riders down but this is a trail that seems to hold up well to a lot of conditions.
Long Cane - Unknown
Baker Creek - Unknown
Keg Creek - Unknown
Bartram Trail (Lake) - Trail has a couple of trees down and some other general work that needs to be handled - there are wet areas on the trail that haven't been there before after that last rain.
ORA Trail - Unknown
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION - If you do work on the trails please let me know, all work is greatly appreciated and we want to recognize your efforts! Please print your name whenever possible on the volunteer forms - cursive writing is hard to decipher at times.
FATS work party details will be posted in the April newsletter - thanks guys!
Thanks to all the folks who routinely do work on the trails we ride. Whether it is stopping for a moment to remove obstacles on the trail or an unscheduled work party with chainsaws, etc and everything in between, your work is appreciated!
