Great trail, great condition. « Thread Started on Apr 5, 2009, 8:43pm »
As usual, a weekend spent camping at Hickory Knob State Park means a day trip to ride Long Cane. As usual, it was a nice, long ride on an awesome trail. That trail offers a lot of different conditions, and even though there have been some rains recently in our area, the trail was still very rideable. Parked at the Fell Hunt Camp and rode from there. Our route included riding the loop clockwise, with a detour to the Scenic Area, and we ended up with nearly 30 miles total, and right at 3 hours.
Spring is in the air.
MD getting maybe two inches of air.
One of only two or three trees we had to stop for.
We enjoy parking at the Fell Hunt Camp. It is the closest when coming in from McCormick. The Sumter pass we use for Lick Fork is also good there, they have clean restroom facilities and fresh water. Additionally, the camp host tends to keep a good eye on the place.

Camped at HKSP for the weekend, and hit LCHT Sunday. Beautiful conditions. Beautiful trail. Thanks to the locals who used the DRs after the SMC. Some areas that were essentially not rideable early spring are perfection now.
Looking forward to the new signs. Let us know how we can help you get them in place! We have ridden there enough now that it is old hat, but if you don't know the trail system

I've found the best way to get to Fell Hunt Camp is to get on Key Rd and just keep driving until going straight will run you into a house. Then turn right and Fell is on the right a mile or so up the road. Along the way, you will cross many intersections - just keep going straight until there is a large white house in front of you and a cemetery on your left.
Key Rd changes names to Millway Rd (I think) at a spot where the paved road sweeps left and a gravel rd is on the right.
The LCHT is the best old school trail on the district. Maybe the best trail on the district, period.
