Rifle season for deer begins on October 11th in South Carolina & on October 20th in Georgia and runs through the end of the year ....things to know: - Wear your orange safety vest or same colored shirt when riding!
- In GA hunters can hunt 7 days a week
- In SC hunters can hunt 6 days a week, they cannot hunt on Sundays on public lands (no hunting in state parks (HKSP) at all)
- Be extra cautious those first two weeks of hunting season
- FATS will be closed from Oct 11th through Oct 24th except on Sundays (14th & 21st)
- Please be respectful of other land users in the forest

Just a reminder, since we get a lot of questions about this:
ONLY FATS IS CLOSED DURING HUNTING SEASON, and only for the first two weeks.
Wear blaze orange, don't wear white, and enjoy the riding. Fall is the best season for riding!

To add a bit more info (particularly if you enjoy night riding), in South Carolina the legal deer hunting time is 1 hour before sunrise to 1 hour after sunset. In Georgia the legal deer hunting time is 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset. This website will allow you to enter a location and give you the sunrise and sunset for the entire year - aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.php Important to know since the low light areas at dawn and dusk can be a bit riskier time to be in the woods particularly at the start of hunting season. Once the time changes the night riders will normally be hitting the woods after the hunters are out!

Looks like rifle season for deer in Georgia doesn't start until October 20th but remember hunting is allowed in Georgia 7 days a week so be sure and use hunter orange vests/shirts when on the trails on public land!
