2 trees down on 2-Way section
« Thread Started on Nov 5, 2009, 8:20am »

Did the Wednesday night canal ride last night and there's 2 tree tops across the trail on the 2 way section not too far from the trailhead. Definitely going to need a chainsaw to clear it. If anyone wants to cut some stuff up, let me know and I'll meet you out there (I don't have a chainsaw). It would have to be on a Sunday or early morning during the week (daylight's around 6:30am now). Give me a call at the store to coordinate, 706.724.2453, and thanks in advance!

Please post on forum when work will be done to clear the down trees, maybe I can give a helping hand. I can help during the week. I do not have a chainsaw.

Went down to trail today and did about 2 hours of work just cleaning up the trail, cutting back stuff etc. Two or three people could knock those trees out in less than a 1/2 hour if they hit it hard.. Once that's done, the trail should be back in A+ shape.. I'm going down there now to tidy up some other stuff that I couldn't quite get like I wanted.. I'll start on the tree area and see what I can clear out with cutters, but a chainsaw is what's needed..

It's cross season, so I don't have much time to give, but plan on starting going down there regularly to do maintnance.. All it takes is small clipper or saw in the camelback.. That's all I took and it makes a world of difference..

Okay, trail is 99.8% clear. My 3 year old and I went down there today and worked, as he said, "super hard" and got all the stuff out from around the down tree.. It will only take someone 5 minutes with a chainsaw to cut that think out.. It's totally clear around it.. The pine tree that is down is dead, but needed another set of hands to move it.. It light, just cumbersome.. Cut back a lot of other areas as well..

It's official, trail is 100% clear. Met Lowell D at the trail this morning to cut the trees out. Thanks LD and Mosovich! Weather permitting, the Wed night ride should be off the hook tomorrow!!! Charge the lights!

For all the people that worked on clearing the trail "THANK YOU". I'm planning on riding the canal trail next week with the grandkids. They live in National Hills and we can ride our bikes to the trail. Thanks again.

Drew, You guys still leave the shop around 6:15? It is pretty much dark at that time. For a Country Boy in the city, do I need to pack some heat in my camelpack do make it to the trail? LOL. I see in the news where they shoot at each other from the porch in Augusta..........

No problem.. When cross season is over, I'll probably start my once a week "triming" of the trail.. I'd like to take my swing blade to some areas and will probably do this during Thanksgiving..

We leave at 6:30 from the store, so bring a good light ...not a little clip on light that runs on AAA batteries. I shouldn't have to explain that one, but I've gotten myself in trouble by not doing so. Oh yeah, we wear bullet proof vest so we don't have to worry about stray bullets...LOL. Seriously we haven't had a single issue with guns just lots of funs! LOL
