That was a great ride today. Getting lost twice just added to it.
Keg Creek CW is a fun ride that just needs more wheels. Keg Creek is a great trail that will build up some skills. It has off-cambers, roots, rocks, sharp dips, kinda skinny bridges, a steepie or two to get up, a techy creek crossing or two. Alot of things the Forks International Speedway lacks when I think about. Keg Creek is modern day "old school" riding. I loved it today.
Mistletoe's Rock Dam Trail is interesting. We got on it near "Sitting Tree" on the Park's Map, and went left going clockwise. It had a steepie or two right off the bat and then for a while it seemed to be alot of old road beds with rake n ride fall line trail connecting them. Nothing special for the most part, I thought. We turned right onto the White Trail (Cliat Creek) and it took us the office. I looked at the map, was kinda confused, ate a Snickers and a Butterfinger and rode back down the same white trail we came up. Once we crossed the creek and got back on the Rock Dam Trail, we hit its best sections. The climb up the rocky bench cut, that tapers into a full on off-camber, root filled, rock filled, any line you can ride - was magnificent. Perhaps the highlight of the whole ride. A few steepies here and there and some decent flow wrapped up the loop.
I don't think the map is very accurate concerning the Rock Dam/Cliat intersection. It was confusing to us, but I think I understand how it all works now.
Without getting lost, it will be about a 24.5 mile ride with some good old school singletrack, easy pedaling thru a neighborhood and on some lightly traveled roads. I'd also prolly ride the entire Cliat Loop instead of the way we did today as an out/back. This may add a little milage. Overall, I thought it was a great route that I will do again.
This would be a great bike packing route and will be even better when the Bartram Trail comes into Wildwood Park.
