I know...it's still a ways off, but the wife's working that day, so I got a 13hr kitchen pass.
Who wants to go ride at Fort Yargo in Winder, GA? IIRC it's about a 10 mile loop, and approx a 2hr drive (maybe a little less). Very fun trail. I've ridden there...twice I think now, last time was in '08 I think.
I can fit 3 other people and bikes in my car. I was thinking we'd ride two or three loops, eat some food, then head back. I'm open for what time to leave.

Fort Yargo is near my sister's house. I'll ride it when I go visit her next.
Also, there is something nearby called Harbins Park. You should ride it the same day.

Anyone interested in this? Weather looks to be good, hopefully the trails will be open. If Yargo is closed, anyone want to do the Modoc/Turkey ride?

Wish I could make it, but too much going on this weekend with the kids. I camped at Ft. Yargo last weekend with a small group. The trails were all closed due to the snow. You should call ahead to make sure they are open now. I believe there are about 18 miles of trails. There is an inner loop that follows the shore and an outer loop. I rode it last summer, its a great trail.

Can't ride that day. My priority is to help Jimmy C at FATS.

How about we reschedule the ride for Sun. afternoon, and do some work Saturday. I've yet to make it to a work party this year, and I've got nothing of importance going on this weekend, so I'm in for Sat. morning.

Damn man, that's awesome about Saturday. But I was going to invite you to do a 32ish mile ride on Sunday that I know you've never done and you will like it alot. Could be it will modified now that some trails could possibly be ridden. The plan is a big loop around Turkey and Wine on gravel and pavement. Gotta use about 100 yards of Turkey Creek to make it work. One creek crossing where we get our feet wet, but it comes in the last mile or so. We can avoid it by riding a few extra miles if it is nasty cold, but shouldn't be. I gotta be home by 6PM to watch KY play basketball on ESPN. Mark Hanna is coming. I recommend this ride to anyone. Two disclaimers: Between FS 613 and FS 612, you gotta get off the bike and hike-a-bike a few hundred yards between these two roads. There is a non-rider creek crossing in there too. Just keep walking straight and you will come to the other road. Between FS 619 and FS 618, there is another creek crossing that will get your feet wet most likely. For this reason, ride the loop CCW when it's cold. Also, there is questionable land ownership for a few hundred yards in b/n FS619 and FS 618. Could be a few hundred yards of trespassing. Don't turn onto FS 618, just ride across it to a grassy road. Ride this grassy road to the Turkey Creek Trail. You will be about a few hundred yards to Key Bridge when you hit TC Trail.

I'm hoping things will be dry enough to ride some trails on Sunday. Maybe do the Modoc/Turkey loop.

Bill,
thanks for the info for FS 612/613 and FS 619. Was looking for that on a previous thread I started. Just a quick question when you get to 283 from FS 609 would you take a left or a right (along your route) to get to the trail head for Wine?
Combining Wine and turkey would make this some fine ride if trail condions warrant.

Coming down 609, take aright onto 283. Wine Creek is less than 100 yards on the left side of 283.
I'd think of the three trails, Wine Creek would be the worst shape of three. It is the must subject to flooding.
Taking Turkey Creek Trail (at least for 3ish miles) gets you around the short trespass b/n 619 and 618. But you gotta know where to exit TC, or just stay on it until the 5.2 mile mark, or the end. If coming the other direction, you just stay on FS 617 and go straight (I think this is called 617B and just 617 is actually the second right turn - weird, I know) and you will come to a dead end. Keep riding into the woods and you'll come into TC trail and turn left to go to Key Br.
This is a great ride with or without the trails being in there.
