As of 1/15/2011, FATS is closed. The USFS has closed FATS due to wet trail conditions. Anyone found hiking or riding any trail at FATS will be given a ticket. The SORBA-CSRA web site is currently not operational.

Probably a dozen cars and trucks in the parking lot around 11am this morning. Mixture of runners and cyclists. Orange tape blocked the trail entrance, but it must not have stopped anyone. No people near the vehicles.

When I arrived at the main lot about 8:30am to put up the signs, there was a "running event" of sorts going on. Probably 40ish cars there, and 50+ runners already out on the frozen trails.
Not good for sure. But not a dozen cars showing up and ignoring the tape/signs.
Today will be the better test.
Today would be a good day for the rangers to be around. And they usually are on Sundays.

I stopped by FATS on my way home from Modoc.
A truck pulled in just before me and the looped around to leave, rolled his window down and told me it was closed, he was going to ride the canal.
A car with two young guys just starting to unload their bikes, so stopped to say hello. They knew it was closed, but were going to ride anyways because they didn't know anywhere else to ride, FATS was the only place they had ever ridden. They didn't know they could get a ticket, and asked if there was anywhere else to ride, so I told them about Modoc, and put directions into their GPS so they could get there. Told them a little about SORBA, gave them one of the yellow SORBA card they headed out really excited to ride a new trail.
There was a group of three cars, and they were working on a bike. They saw it was closed, so they were going to fix the bike while waiting on another guy to show up then they were going to head over to Turkey Creek.
Those were the only cars there at the time. A good sign I think.

I'll try to place one of these again at the trail head this week. Need to laminate it at work.

Has anyone been out there in the last few days? Any chance FATS will be open this weekend before the work party?

Paul F. and I were out there on Monday (01/17/11) clearing drains. At least on BW, lots of standing water and muddy nastiness. Also, it started raining as we were working.
I'd be surprised if FATS opens this weekend...but stranger things have happened.

I am coming up from Statesboro for the work party. I was not planning on bringing my bike, but the website says FATS is open again. Are any loops dry enough for a ride?

Am in Charlotte area. (IMBA/SORBA member) Having serious cycling jones because of wet trails here.
